Marigoule
It is a cross between European and Japanese chestnut (Castanea sativa x Castanea crenata). On deep soils rich in organic matter, the tree grows luxuriantly with a slightly upright habit. It is slightly susceptible to chestnut blight and moderately susceptible to chestnut gall wasp. It tolerates winter cold well. Budding and flowering medium to late. Fruting is good. There are two to three normally developed fruits in a burr with maroon features. Its shell dark mahogany coloured and bright. The partition of the fruit is low. The fruit is usually monoembryonic.
