Tonda Gentile Delle Langhe
This is an old northern Italian variety. Grows medium. lush. It grows well as a shrub, but also as a somewhat upright tree. Fruiting is average, but the fruit is of very high quality and is valued in the confectionery industry. It is quite sensitive to the hazelnut gall mite and fairly resistant to nut weevil. Flowers and buds very early. It is a fruit of small to medium size and almost perfectly round. When ripe, it falls out of the green envelopes. The shell is thin, shiny light brown in colour. The kernel is round with a thin skin that peels off completely during roasting.
