Merveille de Bollwiller
In America it is known as Hall's Giant, and in Germany as Hallesche Riesen and Wunder aus Bollwiller. We have been growing it for decades under the name Halska leska. It grows very luxuriantly and upright. It can be grown as a bush or a tree. Its fruting is average. It is resistant to the hazelnut gall mite and moderately sensitive to nut weevil. Flowers and buds late. It is most often planted as a pollinator for Istrska dolgoplodna leska and many other varieties. It can also be planted as a main variety. The fruit is large, with a characteristic conical, slightly elongated shape. The fall from the green envelope is medium. The shell is thicker, light brown to reddish in colour. The kernel is elongated, slightly pointed. It has a thin, thickened skin in places, which it completely gives up when roasted.
