Zala

This is a new Slovenian variety. Buds medium-late, up to ten days before the Franquette variety. The variety is less susceptible to cold and moderately susceptible to walnut blight and walnut anthracnose. The tree grows medium to luxuriantly, forms a beautiful crown and has a vigorous appearance. It has intermediate fruting type - bears on strong annual shoots that grow from biennial and perennial wood. Fruting is average and regular. The fruit has a round-elliptical shape, is of medium size, has an attractive appearance, a smooth surface and a well-seamed shell. The kernels are easy to remove from the shell. The variety can be cultivated in all climatic zones in Slovenia, although elevated locations and vineyard sites are likely to be favoured.
