Tonda di Giffoni

It originates from Italy. It grows luxuriantly, somewhat upright when young, later the crown spreads out beautifully. It can be grown as a bush, but also does very well as a tree. Bear early, well and regularly. Very little susceptible to the nut weevil and the hazelnut gall mite. Flowers and buds early. Dropping of the ripe hazelnuts from the green envelope is moderate to complete. The fruit is medium thick, round and has a distinct longitudinal furrow. The shell is thin, beautifully brown with lighter-coloured longitudinal spots. The kernel is round and heart-shaped with a medium compact skin, which comes off completely when roasted.
